Tour de Millport - A great day
On Saturday the 20th of June we took around 85 people to the island of Millport to take part in our very first "Tour de Millport". We were amazed at the response we got from everyone who was there. Thankfully despite a very slight drizzle as we were on the ferry, the weather changed for the better and the sun shone for the cyclists on the way round. Having not been on a bike for years several people were spotted at the end walking around like "John Wayne" but it was great fun and all for a good cause.
As it was such a great success we will do it all over again next year.
Keep an eye on the website for the date for next year. It will be confirmed shortly.
Below is a small video clip of the day for you to enjoy.
First Bus Donation
First Bus have once again been kind enough to make a donation to the group. It is not the first time they have done this for us and their continued help, support and generosity is invaluable to us all.
A cheque has been received from them for £1,500. It is a fantastic gesture and it makes a real difference to us. So from the children and everyone else at the group we would like to say..... Thanks First Bus.
A Big Thank You
Our group were given a cheque for £230 recently by John Elliot's Mother. John is our Membership Secretary. Donations had been made on the night of his mum's 70th Birthday Party on 1st of April 2009. We would like to say a huge thank you to her for this, it is indeed a wonderful gesture. Thank You
Insulin Pump Therapy
At a recent meeting of IPAG (Insulin Pump Awareness Group) One of our members, Kim Ferguson spoke to the organisers and asked them if they would be willing to come and talk to us on Pumps. They said they would be happy to do so.
The date for this has still to be confirmed and we will post information here when we know for certain. IPAG themselves are giving a talk in Diabetes UK Offices on Monday 15th June, see our Meetings & Events page for more details. Like us they need all the support they can get so if you are able to support them by going along please do so. They are willing to support us.
Pump therapy is something that we should all know more about so this would be a great opportunity for us to do just that.
Dr Craigie Talk
Dr Ian Craigie of Yorkhill Hospital - Diabetes Services, kindly offers us a talk on Diabetes every year. This year's talk will be held as usual in the Cinema at Yorkhill Hospital on Tuesday 6th of October. See our events page for more information.
